Intro to Beekeeping:
The introduction to beekeeping is a 2 day course for those who are just starting with beekeeping.
This course will cover such topics as basic bee equipment, understanding bee structure, and bee health.
Also a discussion on getting honey and when. This course also involves a hands on real hives section.
Classes will be taught by Brendhan Horne, Malcolm Sanford,
Linda Tillman, and Dallas Mattox.
You must have a hat and veil for this. We will be selling those separately for $25.00

Honey and Wax for Competition:
Linda Tillman will be teaching us how to bottle award winning honey
and pour blue-ribbon wax. She will cover: How the honey is bottled for best display and taste.
How to produce clean wax and package the wax for judging. Even if you are not planning to enter
competitions, this course will show you how to produce a high quality product for everyone to enjoy.

Queen Rearing and Grafting:
Alan Bukley will be doing an instructional over the two days on how to graft larvae and
how to raise your own queens. This course will involve hands on training. If you do not have
a basic grafting kit they will be available for $10.00.

Top Bar Hives:
Sam Comfort will show you how to raise bees in a top bar hive. How to properly handle the
frames for inspection. How to extract honey from top bar frames. You can also learn how these
hives differ from the standard langstroth hive.

Cut Outs:
JP will be doing hands on cut outs of bees from objects they have taken residence in. You will
learn what tools you need and how to properly handle a cut out in order to save the bees. Participants will
also learn how to deal with comb and secure it to the frames. This course will require you have a hat and veil.

Honey Standards:
Doug McGinnis will discuss the standards used for honey both foreign and domestic and the
impact those standards are having on the beekeeping industry.

Beekeeping in South Florida:
Brendhan Horne will discuss beekeeping in South Florida. This includes dealing with the Africanized Bee issue,
keeping bees in a place with no winter, and setting up a small beekeeping trade. You will also learn how to
register your hives and how to transport your hives.

Hives After Dark:
Dallas Mattox, JP, and Alan Bukley will
be doing a hives after dark. Learn how to handle your hives once the sun has gone down. What equipment and tools
are helpful in this endeavor and why you don't need to fear your bees once the stars are out. Red lights are mandatory
here. If you don't have one get one.

Lip Balm and Lotion:
Linda Tillman and some assistants will be showing you how to make lip balm and
lotion using products from the hive. This will have some hands on portions and may be a bit messy but it will
be fun for all.

Commercial Beekeeping:
Doug McGinnis, Alan Bukley, and
Sam Comfort will be holding a round table discussion on commercial beekeeping and the aspects of beekeeping
as a business. This will be a great chance to learn about beekeeping from those whose livelihood depends on it.

Apitherapy
Health Benefits of the Products of the Beehive will be presented by Boynton Beach Apitherapist
Mike Szakacs. Mike will also demonstrate bee venom or "sting" therapy. This is a great chance for you to learn
more about apitherapy.
